The Well

The Well is an international church plant that we will be joining in Brussels Belgium. It was started in 2004 by a team from Christian Associates International with its intent to reach people, particularly those who live and work in and around the European Union. Carlton Deal, the team leader describes it best:

THE WELL: a community of christian faith and mission

We are the Well. We see thirsty people gathering at the Well, becoming a community, finding life in Jesus. We see water from the Well carried to a thirsty city and new Wells springing up in Brussels and beyond.

We say often that we are a church, but not a building or meeting. We are a community of faith on a mission that is changing our lives. We see the church comprising three relationships: our own individual faith journey with God, the relationships the Spirit is building between us as the body of Christ, and the relationship the church has with the world. For quick reference, we call these three conversion, community, and cause.

We believe the church is at its best when it is relationally-sized, like the number of people that could fit in a café. And yet we want to see the body of Christ grow and grow, like a small seed that is planted and grows into the biggest of trees and is a blessing to all. That’s why we meet separately as expressions, but come together monthly for All Well Worship. We believe we are called to be a network of reproducing Christ-centered communities.

We didn’t get this from a book. We’re not copying something we have seen somewhere else. We didn’t come here with this already figured out. We have all learned these things together – from the Spirit, from the Bible, from many relationships and conversations, even from Brussels itself. Jesus is building his church.
